Mr. Paul Edward Riggs, 88, of Mount Airy, a loving father and grandfather passed away on Friday evening January 29, 2016, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born December 25, 1927 in Surry County, to the late Charlie and Lula Mitchell Riggs . In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years Onita Benge Riggs, brothers , Fred Riggs and Ruben Riggs; and half -brother, Bennie Thompson.
Mr. Riggs was a member of Blues Grove Baptist Church for over 50 years, having served faithfully as a deacon . Before his retirement, he was employed by the NC State Prison Department. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Patty and Reverend Dennis Bledsoe of Dobson, two sons and daughters-in-law Tom and Judy Riggs and Terry and Kay Riggs, all of Mount Airy: brothers , Monroe and Judith Riggs of Cleveland and Ray and Dot Riggs of Mount Airy: sisters-in-law, Betty Riggs of Mount Airy and Ann Riggs of Statesville. He is also survived by six grandchildren Josh and Lisa Bledsoe, Emily and Rex Stroud, Katie and Derek Ayers, Andy Riggs, Scott and Trenika East, Belinda and Scotty Epperson, and eight great-grandchildren Abbie Stroud, Meredith Stroud, Dakota Epperson, Kaley Epperson, Shawn Epperson, Haley East, Brittany East, and Adison East.
Visitation will be held Monday, February 1, 2016, from 12-2 PM at Blues Grove Baptist Church. The Funeral will follow at 2:00 PM at the church with Reverend Travis Sechrist and Reverend Roland McCraw, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017 or Blues Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3069 Red Brush Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
