One of the most distressing results of the terrible influenza epidemic that has been raging in the county for several weeks past, was the death at 11.30 last Saturday night, at his home in Burkittsville, of Mr. CLAUDE ARNOLD, aged 35 years, and the death from the same disease, pneumonia, of his wife, Mrs. GRACE FLOOK ARNOLD, aged 38, which occurred shortly before 12 o'clock last Monday noon, about 24 hours after the death of the husband.

One of the distressing features is that five small children are left orphans -- two sons and three daughters, ranging in aged from 3 to 13 years. One of the children was also ill from the disease, but is recovering.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Arnold were taken sick about a week before their death. Both were well known and highly esteemed in the community, and their large circle of friends were greatly shocked at their deaths.

Mr. Arnold was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Arnold, of near Burkittsville. Mrs. Arnold was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mr.s Wm. Snavely Flook, near Brunswick.

The double funeral took place from the house Wednesday morning last. The bodies were brought to Middletown in two hearses and interred in the Reformed cemetery. It was the first instance ever remembered where a husband and wife were both buried together at one time in Middletown.
