Dale Welch, 91, died Jan. 29, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society-Hutchinson Village. He was born April 5, 1924, in Turon to William W. and Alice L. (Compton) Welch.
Dale attended Turon Grade School for eight years and graduated from Turon High School in 1942. On Dec. 7, 1942, he entered the U.S. Army and was discharged on Dec. 5, 1945. He went overseas to England in January 1944 for about three months and then to Utah Beach, landing on D-Day. Dale then switched to the Third Army in June or July until the end of the war. He served as a radio operator in the European theater. Dale retired from Kansas Gas Service after 33 years of service and was owner and operator of D&D Welch. After retirement, he was a contract carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for nine years, transporting mail from Wichita to Oklahoma.
On Sept. 28, 1948, Dale married Darline Mae Wright in Hutchinson. She died on Jan. 27, 2003. Survivors include: daughter, Cynthia M. Welch of McPherson; son, William D. Welch (Jo Sue) of Wichita; “adopted” daughters, Sandi Berg and Debbie Mock (Mark); grandchildren, Eric Karl Callahan, Traci Lynne Clark, Jason Wayne Welch; great-grandchildren, Justin Clark, Shelby Clark, Levi Clark, Zachary Welch, Trinity Welch; “adopted” grandchildren, Jeremy Mock, Christopher Mock, Alyssa Mock; “adopted” great-grandchildren, Moneé Vieyra, Mylee Dean, and Isabelle Mock. He was preceded in death by: his parents; daughters, Linda Darline Welch and Nancy Callahan; brothers, Orlo, Earl, Keith, and Donald Welch; and sisters, Reta Nestor, Neva Bauman, Iona Huff and Emmaline Lambert.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at Elliott Chapel, Hutchinson, with Pastor Butch Lambert presiding. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Burial Park, Hutchinson. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday, with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel.
