Dobson Patrol Officer and former Surry County Deputy Sheriff, Dave Wilmoth, ended his tour of duty and went home to be with his beloved Papa on Thursday, January 28, 2016.

He was the son of Barry and Anne Wilmoth of Dobson.

Dave was a 2010 graduate of Surry Central High School where he excelled in both football and basketball. He graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Training at Surry Community College in June 2014 and began his law enforcement career with the Surry County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy. He served in that capacity until July 18, 2015. On August 1, 2015, he joined the Dobson Police Department as a patrol officer.

Dave most valued his faith, friends, and family. He was committed to public service and was using that passion to serve his community. His greatest love was coaching football at Surry Central, which he hoped to continue at some point in the future.

Dave also enjoyed hunting, being active, attending church, and hanging out with his friends.

In addition to his parents, Dave is survived by his brother, Dan Wilmoth, of Dobson; paternal grandmother, Jo Ann Wilmoth, of Dobson; uncles Graham Atkinson (Melissa), Jeff Wilmoth (Lori), Keith Wilmoth (Emily); cousins Tyler Wilmoth, Zach Wilmoth, Mallory Wilmoth, Amelia Wilmoth, Madelyn Wilmoth, Samantha Atkinson, and Hugh Atkinson; his very special love, Victoria Harris; and his Great Dane, Roxy.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Larry Wilmoth; and maternal grandparents, Edwin and Ellen Atkinson.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, January 30, at First Baptist Church of Dobson from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.
