SCHMID – Johns C. Jr. “Jack,” 89, Davidsville, formerly of Geistown Borough, went to be with the Lord March 10, 2014, at Laurel View Village. Born Nov. 8, 1924, in Johnstown, son of John C. Sr. and Thelma (Berry) Schmid. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Doris Briggs. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Harriet A. (Hastings) Schmid; children, John C. III, married to former Julie A. Paul, Jackson, Mich.; Cathy A. Mull, Windber; and Amy L. Noon, Johnstown; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Ardelle Ulerich, Richland Township; and many nieces and nephews. Jack was a graduate of Johnstown High School and Lock Haven State Teachers College. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II and the Korean War. Jack retired from General Telephone Co., where he was employed as a field engineer. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, where he was the Sunday school superintendent and deacon for many years. Jack also was a past master of Greater Johnstown Lodge No. 538 F&AM. He enjoyed reading westerns, but especially going to church. Jack was a family man devoted to his wife and children. Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Harris Funeral Home, 500 Cherry Lane, Richland. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Laurel View Village Chapel, the Rev. Wes Yoder, the Rev. William Thwing and the Rev. Jeffrey Bassette, officiating. Private interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. The family suggests contributions be directed to Laurel View Village, Caring Fund, 1000 Vista Drive, Davidsville, Pa. 15928, in memory of Jack.
