Son of George William and Edith Andree. His mother passed away shortly after his birth and his step mother, Marie, was the only mother he knew. He graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1950 and Butler University in 1954. He attained the rank of major in the U.S. Air Force. He started working as a columnist at the Monticello Herald Journal in 1978 and retired as general manager in 1996. He bred British bulldogs and was active in dog clubs and organizations.
