Married Ray Adams, March 8, 1928 in Beaumont, Jefferson Co., Texas

Mother of:
Gladys Narceille Adams Vaden

Sister of:
John Alvin Taylor (1901-1975)
Floyd Arthur Taylor (1907-1963)

Mrs. Gladys Taylor Adams, age 86, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on June 12, 1991. Her husband, Ray Adams, preceded her to glory.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., June 13, 1991, in Kirbyville at the E.E. Stringer Funeral Home chapel.

Rev. Royce Pennington, Pastor of Blanchard Baptist Church, Livingston, officiated. At the close of the service a lovely Trip of Memories was presented by granddaughter Ramona Vaden Aly.

Mrs. Adams was born in Silsbee and moved to Kirbyville with her parents and two brothers on March 15, 1913. She was baptized in July, 1917 in Kirbyville First Baptist Church.

For the last 9 1/2 years, she has been a resident of Hines Health Care, Jasper. Until illness took over her life, she was very active in her Lord's work, working for years in the Junior Department of First Baptist Church, Jasper and Kirbyville. She also served as church pianist for years and served faithfully as secretary for her Sunday School class for many years.

Mrs. Adams was a veteran piano teacher, beginning this profession of love in her early teens. Many a child, whose parents could not pay for lessons, were taught lovingly like all the other pupils. She always saw a potential in a child and pushed that child a little father.

Music was her life, and she was devoted to her profession and students. Music during visitation and during the service was furnished by former piano students, including Mrs. Adams' granddaughter, Kaye Vaden Drumm, Audrey Fae Dunn, and Lisa Adams Randolph.

For years, Mrs. Adams was active in the American Legion Organization and headed up the poppy sales for Kirbyville.

Pallbearers were grandsons Cecil Vaden Jr. and Mike Vaden, great-grandson Steven Drumm, nephews Walter Adams and Arthur Campbell, Keith Barnett, Rusty Sanders, and Bill Skinner. Honorary pallbearer was grandson Capt. David Vaden with the U.S. Army.

Surviving are her daughter Narceille Adams Vaden of Livingston; son-in-law Cecil Vaden Sr.; seven grandchildren--Ramona Aly of San Angelo, Rhonda Kaye Drumm of Lumberton, Celicia Thompson of Houston, Marla Vaden of Livingston, Cecil Vaden Jr. of Splendora, Mike Vaden of Lindale, and Capt. David Vaden of Kansas; thirteen great-grandchildren--Kara and Kim Aly; Ray and A.T. Vaden; Jason and Matt Vaden; Jason, Steven and Rachel Drumm; Samuel and Sarah Vaden; and Taylor and Halee Thompson.

Mrs. Adams was preceded in death by one great-grandson, little Cody Lee Thompson.

Burial was in Kirbyville Cemetery under the direction of Stringer Funeral Home.
