Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Donnie J. Garrett, age 62 of Jefferson, Georgia who entered into rest Wednesday, January 27, 2016.
Mr. Garrett was born in Commerce, Georgia the son of the late L.C. and Ruby Gaddis Garrett. Donnie was retired from the Oliver Rubber Company after 28 years of service and was a Poultry Farmer.
On Friday, June 22, 1979, Donnie married his wife, Emily Anthony. The two were married up until his death in 2016. They enjoyed 36 years together before his death.
Survivors include his wife, Emily Anthony Garrett of Jefferson, sisters, Kathy Holloway of Jefferson, Louise Chambers and Hazel Chambers both of Comer. Brothers, Bobby Garrett of Hull and Robert Garrett of Gainesville. Sister in law: Judy Carton (Don) of Bogart and brother in law Neal Anthony (Suzanne) of Gainesville. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family received friends at the funeral home Friday, January 29, 2016, 6 - 9 P.M.. Evans Funeral Home staff commented that this was one of the largest visitations in a long time at the funeral home. Donnie was a man blessed with many, many friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 30, 2016 from the Tyrus Baptist Church (currently holding services at former Thyatira Presbyterian Church). Reverend Bo Whisnant and Reverend Patsy Garrett Sherwood officiated. The burial followed in Evans Memory Gardens.
Flowers were optional with memorials made to the Tyrus Baptist Church Building Fund, 2116 Commerce Road, Jefferson, Georgia 30549.
