Sammie L. Shelton departed this life Monday, January 25, 2016. He was born in Parthenon, Arkansas September 11, 1935, a son of the late William R. and Della (Hudson) Shelton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Dorwin, Harland, Ford, Gene, Charles and Gerald; and one sister, Wilma Carter.

Sam retired from the Jasper School system as a teacher and the Arkansas Department of Health as an Environmental Specialist. He was also a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict. Sam was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing and going to auctions.

Sam is survived by his wife, Karen Shelton; his children, Karen Brasel and husband Harold of Jasper, Cheryl Freeman and husband David of Pelsor, Junior Shelton and wife Lisa of Harrison and Joey Shelton and wife Vickey of Harrison; his brother, William Shelton, of Wayton; his sister, Beulah Reynolds, of Little Rock; his step-daughter, Felicia Martin, of Conway; his step-son, Robb Martin, of Harrison; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 30, 2016, with Bill Taylor officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam’s grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of the Hills, PO Box 1927, Harrison, AR 72602.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Hills for making Sam’s final days easier.
