In 1930, the Merritt family is living in a rented house at 480 First St in Newburgh (Orange) New York, where Arthur is a mill worker. In 1940, Arthur is employed as a farm hand and living on Rovell St. in Somers with his 81-year-old widowed mother, Isabella. Mary, divorced, is a lodger at 1765 P St. in Washington, DC, working as a maid in a private home. Lodging at the same address are Ira D. and Madaline H. Baker. In 1935, Mary lived in Tulsa, OK.
When Mary died in 1956 at age 64, she was working for the U.S. Treasury Printing Dept. in Washington, DC. According to her sister, Alice, she died from “hard work.”
Mary is buried in Washington, D.C.
