Susie was born at Rantoul AFB, Ill., on Oct. 26, 1960 to Bobby and Mary Lathem.
She is survived by her loving husband, John D. Rankin, her parents, Bobby and Mary Lathem, two sisters, Beth (Lenny) Pye and Mary Jane Callaway, two nephews, Jared Pye and Harrison Callaway, and two beloved pets, Leroy and Bristol.
Susie loved her husband Johnny, her family and her friends. She enjoyed helping people, caring for animals, cooking, being outdoors, shopping for bargains, and anything western. A great encourager, she was bubbly, boisterous and generous to a fault.
Susie graduated from ECHS in the Class of 1978 and was a member of the Rebel Regiment Marching Band. She was an employee at Boat N RV World, Ridgeland, S.C. She was a former member of First Baptist Church in Rincon and current member of Faith Baptist Church in Ridgeland.
The family would like to thank Saul's Funeral Home for their compassion and attention to detail. We would also like to thank our families and friends for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. On January 7, Susie was laid to rest in Stafford Baptist Church Cemetery in Furman, S.C., after a graveside service led by Chaplain Ed Morgan in the presence of family and friends. "For I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, plans for peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." The Son of God said to those who have confidence in His life, death and resurrection, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." We deeply mourn our loss but we celebrate her new life in Jesus Christ. -
