Age 82, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016, in Happy Valley, Oregon. She was born on July 28, 1933, in Benson, Minnesota, to Sam and Clara Johnson. She married Mark Garoutte on July 8, 1949, and moved to the Roseburg area from Bandon in 1959.

Alphine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Clint, Ed, and Sherman; son Mark; and grandson Sam Carter.

She is survived by her husband Mark; daughter Rena Bowman and her husband Michael Bowman; sister Harriet Gardner; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life in the spring.
