John Calderwood was b 8 May 1803, Vinalhaven (Calderwood Neck) on 8 May 1803, the s/o Jonathan Calderwood & Charity Carver Hall. He d 13 Nov 1871, Camden, Me.

John married twice. He first married Susan Carver on 2 Nov 1826, North Haven, married by George Dyer. Susan was b 25 Jan 1805, Vinalhaven, the d/o Israel Carver & Susanna Jewell. Susan is how she is written into the family Bible, not Susanna. She d 17 Jan 1863, North Haven.

John's sister, Betsey Calderwood, married the Samuel Carver, the brother of his wife, Susan Carver. Both families resided on the northeast side of North Haven.

She d 5 Feb 1886, Camden. Tirza / Thirza married 1st ----- Fuller, abt 1850. After John's death, she married 3rd James P Fielding on 5 Sept 1875, Camden, married by Rev G W Bower. They divorced.

On 31 Oct 1829, John is found on "Vinalhaven's" Voting List.

On 19 Nov 1847, John Calderwood sold land to brother-in-law Abram Ames. Ellsworth Court House 60:324 / Rockland Court House 64:333

With him are his 45-year-old wife, Susan, and their children, Freeman (23 & working as a fisherman), Rebecca C (ae 17), Elisha C (ae 14), Jonathan C (ae 13), Charity C (ae 9), Benjamin C (ae 7) and Ursula C (ae 3). They are living between Andrew & Sally Webster and Abram & Rachel Carver.

Personal property value: $564. Total Tax Assessment: $1614.

In 1860, 57-year-old John is a farmer on North Haven with real estate valued at $2500 and personal property at $500. With him is his 55-year-old wife, Susan, and children Jonathan (ae 23, fisherman, with personal property valued at $300), Charity (ae 19, domestic), Benjamin (ae 16, farm laborer) and Ursula (ae 14). Also residing with them is 3-year-old George Clater.
