Loretta was a very unique person. In 1990, Loretta was presented the Distinguished Program Service Award from the Sumter YMCA. This award was generally reserved for adults. Loretta graduated from St. Jude High School in Sumter, SC as valedictorian of her class. Loretta also attended the University of South Carolina Sumter and Columbia campuses graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in biology with a minor in chemistry. She also received an associate of science degree in nursing from Central Carolina Technical College in Sumter, SC in 2004 with high honors. Loretta loved education and would always strive to be the best that she could be. This led her to continue her education at Chamberlain University completing her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. She began her nursing career at Lexington Medical Center working there until 2006. She then took a position with the WJB Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Columbia, SC in the Intensive Care Unit and later accepted a position in the Radiology department. Loretta had an exceptionally high level of compassion, she often went above and beyond the standard level of care for her critically ill patients.
Loretta is survived by her loving husband Richard Parker, parents Timothy and Barbara Robirds, brother T. Jonathan Robirds, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and her fur babies.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Thursday January 28, 2016 from 10 - 11 AM with a funeral service following at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park immediately following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or The Humane Society, 121 Humane Lane, Columbia, SC 29209.
