Mr. Arthur Lewis (Luke) Alexander, age 89, of Jackson, GA, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016 at his residence. Luke, the youngest of six children, was born Wednesday, September 22, 1926 in Orlando, FL to the late George Fee Alexander and the late Martha Larue Whitaker Alexander. He was preceded in death by his siblings, George Whitaker Alexander, Martha Ella Alexander Shorter, Laura Josephine Alexander Summerlin, Selwyn Tucker Alexander, and William Gaines Alexander.

When Luke was very young, his family moved to Milledgeville, GA. He and his three brothers attended Georgia Military College. After junior college, Luke attended Davidson College in Charlotte, NC. While in college, he went into the Army. This was during World War II. All four boys served in World War II.

In June of 1951, Luke married Jo Ann Greer. He was in construction work, and they traveled around following his work. Luke was a member of The Forest Park Moose Club, The Forest Park Tara Shrine Club, and The Tara Masons. He was president of the Forest Park Athletic Assoc. for three years and coached Little League Baseball for ten years. Luke was a member of the Joseph Habersham SAR in Clarksville, GA. They were both members of the Forest Park Methodist Church. They moved to Cleveland, GA after they retired. They belonged to the Al Pine Shrine Club. They made many good friends in Cleveland. After almost 20 years, they moved to the High Falls area of Jackson, GA, Monroe Co. They joined the Jackson Presbyterian Church which they loved very much.

Luke is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jo Ann Alexander; daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Rod Henderson; son and daughter-in-law, Arthur Lewis, Jr. (Art) and Carol Alexander; 9 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Grave side funeral services for Luke Alexander will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery in Conyers, GA with Reverend Becky Baker officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jackson Presbyterian Church, 240 N. Oak St., Jackson, GA 30233.
