Máximo Sosa Valenzuela went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2016. Max was born in the Hacienda in Presidio, Texas, on April 5, 1922. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francisco Valenzuela and Cruz Sosa, as well as his siblings Francisco Valenzuela, Delfin Valenzuela, Dolores Valenzuela, Guadalupe Valenzuela, Simon Valenzuela, Benita Carrasco, Mariana Flores, Mariano Valenzuela, Celso Sosa, Jesus Sosa, and Maria Cruz Cantano.
Max is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Lydia Valenzuela, his son Israel :"Ray" Valenzuela, (Delia), grandchildren Ray Anthony Valenzuela (Celeste), Elizabeth Marie Valenzuela, Christopher James Valenzuela (Charlene), and Matthew Rey Valenzuela, along with 8 great grandchildren.
Max was a hard worker, a virtue which he learned growing up on a West Texas farm. He was proud to have contributed to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department through his work for the Civilians Conservation Corps. Max also served his country with honor through his 3 years of military service, during this time he was dispatched to many different countries on a variety of assignments. Later he came to San Antonio to work at Kelly Air Force Base, where he served 37 years as an aircraft mechanic until retiring in 1979.
After retirement, Max was able to dedicate more time to his many interests. He loved gardening, quilting, and needle arts. He was a lover of music and dancing, as well as an avid reader. A giving and generous man, Max served devotedly at St. Leo's Catholic Church throughout his final decades of life. Family was very important to him, and max loved getting his family together for cookouts. He will be dearly missed for his kind heart and warm abrazos, his trademark mustache, his sharp wit, and his engaging plática. The family would like to thank nurse Mary Rodriguez, who devoted so much of her time to take special care of Max as his time on earth began to draw to an end. We love you, Max, and may God bless you. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South from 5Pm to 9Pm with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7Pm. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at St. Leo's The Great Catholic Church at 1Pm, followed by interment in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
