Graveside services for Mrs. Margie Poss, 89, of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Antioch Cemetery with Dr. Allen Tilley and Rev. Carol Holmes officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday 5-7:00 p.m. at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mrs. Poss died January 24, 2016 in Carthage, Texas.
Mrs. Marjorie “Margie” Knight Poss was born November 25, 1926 in the Woods Community of Panola County, Texas. She was one of eight children born to the marriage of John Sydnor and Ila Hooker Knight. She was raised in the Woods Community later marrying James Lowell Poss July 3, 1946. Margie and James had three children before he preceded her in death August 4, 1967. Margie would become a single mother who would graduate with her Bachelors of Education through Stephen F. Austin State University. Her professional career would span 35 years with C.I.S.D. as a first grade teacher. Mrs. Poss was a member of the Wood United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Retired Teachers Association. She is also preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Barry Wayne Poss, brothers, Curtis, James, Howell “Jodie”, Melvin, and Billie Gene Knight, sisters, Juanita “Tia” Hull and Ila Mae Knight.
Mrs. Poss is survived by her devoted children, sons, Lynn Poss and wife Sharron, Lonnie Poss and wife Marcia, daughter, Donna Arnold and husband Bill, sister-in-law, Grace Knight, grandchildren, Brad Arnold, Tara Mosley, Mandie Medlin, Jason Gilmer, Josh Gilmer, Jennifer Ficke and Leslie Ham, great grandchildren, Emily Arnold, Caden Arnold, Adrianna Mosley, Addison Mosley, Cade Medlin, Lexi Medlin, Cale Gilmer, Madilynn Gilmer, Kaelea Gilmer, Jaxson Ficke, Jace Ficke, Kendall Hightower and Matthew Ham, numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends. Special thanks to the Memory Care Unit at Briarcliff Healthcare Center.
