Dale was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Furman William Crawford and Maudie Viola Neal Crawford, brother Darwin Earl Crawford, sons Alan Ray Crawford and Jeffrey Dale Crawford.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Wanda Louise Corner Crawford, sons Gary Michael Crawford and wife Susan Beerbohm Crawford, Richard Wayne Crawford and wife Susan Hill Crawford, grandchildren Eric Dale Crawford, Jeannette Crawford, Lori Ann Crawford (Jay Slingluff), Derek Lee Crawford and Steven Michael Crawford, great grandsons, Jameson Dale Slingluff and Jaxon Lee Slingluff.
Dale spent his early years living on a farm in Mills County, Texas during the Great Depression. After the outbreak of WWII, his parents moved the family to Houston in 1942. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1950. In 1953, during the Korean War, Dale entered the U.S. Army, stationed primarily in Alaska. Upon leaving the Army, he married Wanda Corner, the love of his life, on January 8, 1955 and the couple had four sons.
Dale worked for Houston Belt & Terminal Railroad from 1950 until 1963. At the "Belt" he began his career in Traffic and Transportation. He joined Jefferson Chemical Company in 1963. Jefferson was later acquired by Texaco. Dale retired from Texaco Chemical in 1994 after 31 years of distinguished service. He served as President of the Transportation Club of Houston (1990-91), President of the Rail Traffic Association (1996-97) and taught traffic and transportation classes at local community colleges.
Dale loved sports. He was a devoted follower of Houston teams, especially the "Coogs" and was very proud of his Earl Campbell jersey. As a young man, he was an amateur boxer, participating in the Golden Gloves. He also enjoyed coaching his boys in Little League Baseball.
Dale was actively involved in community service. He was a former member of the Ponderosa Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Board of Directors of North Forest Municipal Utility District for 40 years, most recently as President.
Dale was a member of Spring Baptist Church and a devoted follower of Jesus Christ.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven.
Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veteran's Memorial Parkway, Houston, Texas
