Julia Lynn Peters 1981 - 2013

Our precious daughter Julia passed away on December 28, 2013. Following a traumatic birth on August 27, 1981 in San Francisco, California, Julia was affected by cerebral palsy and developmental disabilities. In spite of her physical challenges, her essence showed through and she enriched the lives of many. She was a lovely, happy person who brought out the best in others.

She was served by the Marin County Office of Education, followed by Casa Allegra Community Services and enjoyed her day program at Marin Ventures. Such a people person was she, that without language she managed to make more friends and enjoy more social activities than most. Julia loved music, going to the movies, vacations near the beach, dances and painting. Her artwork was recognized at the Marin County Fair in 2012 and 2013 with first and second place ribbons and was also accepted and displayed as part of the De Young Museum very special arts program.

In addition to enjoying her time in the art studio at Marin Ventures, her day program, Julia played a mouse in the play Cinderella, proudly holding her large sewing needle prop. Julia had beautiful dark hair and grew it long enough to donate to Locks of Love. She loved her Betty Boop bedroom and getting her nails done by one of her favorite friends at Casa Allegra. She rewarded those who supported her with approving, thankful smiles and a playful sense of humor.

In her final weeks Julia was served by the compassionate and skilled professionals from Heartland Hospice. They also helped all who loved her get her through to the end and continue to offer help by providing emotional support.

Julia is survived by her parents, Susan and Allen Peters, sisters Amy Peters and Kate Miller, Kate's husband Brian, nephew and niece, Evan and Leah Miller, as well as extended family and many friends.

To help continue their good work on behalf of others with developmental disabilities, the family would greatly appreciate donations to Julia's residential and day programs in her memory: Casa Allegra Community Services, 35 Mitchell Blvd, Ste. 8, San Rafael, CA 94903, and Marin Ventures, 350 Merrydale Rd., San Rafael, CA, 94903.

The private interment will be at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto, California, where Julia will be joining many generations of her family.
