Lorraine Mary was born January 15, 1929 on the family farm in Olivia, MN to James and Mayme (Cuta) Stadther. Lorraine graduated from Olivia High School and pursued a degree in education. She Graduated from Mankato State with her Master’s Degree in Education. Lorraine taught country school until they were closed; she then transferred to St. Mary’s School in Sleepy Eye.
In 1950, Lorraine was married to Allen Thompson. They moved to New Ulm in 1956, making that their home until retirement in 1987. Retirement allowed them to move to their lake home in Park Rapids. Lorraine enjoyed volunteering with Friends of Itasca State Park. Lorraine and Allen loved the outdoors. Lorraine appreciated a good book and was a voracious reader. She also sewed many quilts that are cherished today. After the death of Allen in 2002, Lorraine moved to Willmar to be closer to family and friends.
Lorraine is survived by her children: Patricia (John) Weier, Lee (Ruth Schaefer) Thompson, Larry (Marg) Thompson, Mary (Jim) Tyer; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; siblings: James (Ginger) Stadther, Ev (Randy) Johnson; brother-in-law, John Borkenhagen; and many other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Allen; daughter, Cindy Davison; and siblings: Lucille Fank, Willard “Bud” Stadther, and Jeannie Borkenhagen.
