Donald Eugene Adams, Sr., age 70, of Berry, Kentucky, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

Born on October 29, 1938, he was a son of the late Welborn, Sr., and Sarah Owens Adams. On June 17, 1960, he married Ruth Collins, and his wife survives his passing.

He was a lieutenant commander (LCDR) in the United States Navy, where he served for 29 years, beginning in 1955 until his retirement in 1984, where he was assigned to the staff of “Commander Naval Air Forces” U.S Atlantic Fleet, in Norfolk, Virginia. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and traveled the world while serving.

After his retirement from the military, he began a life-long dedication to city government and local civic volunteer work in Berry. He was a member of the Berry Baptist Church, a member and treasurer of the Berry Lions Club for 15 years and past member and treasurer of the Northern Harrison Rural Fire Department and was elected and served as Berry City Commissioner of Public Works from January 1986 through December 1992. He was appointed to serve as Berry City Commissioner of Public Works from March 1995 through September 2003. He was appointed as mayor of Berry in 2003 and continued to serve until his death.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on December 9 at Woodhead Funeral Home, in Berry. Burial will take place in Pythian Grove Cemetery, in Berry.
