Motion Picture Screenwriter. Known for penning the stories for the films "The Mouse That Roared" (1959), "The Collector" (1965) and "Conan the Destroyer" (1984). Raised in Toronto, he studied at McGill University, prior to beginning his career as an actor and scriptwriter for Canadian Radio. He moved on to Canadian television, before co-writing his first motion picture "Another Place, Another Time" (1958), which starred Sean Connery. His script contributions to the film "The Mouse That Roared" (1959) helped make Peter Sellers an international star. This was followed with "His and Hers" (1961), "The Mark" (1961) and "Woman of Straw" (1964). Mann's film adaptation of John Fowles' thriller novel "The Collector" (1965) earned him an Academy Award nomination (co-shared with John Kohn). Further films of the 1960s include "Up from the Beach" (1965), "A High Wind in Jamaica" (1965), "Rapture" (1965) and "The Naked Runner" (1967, which starred Frank Sinatra). During the 1970s, he turned to producing and conceived the idea for the Vincent Price film "Theatre of Blood" (1973), while continuing to pen screenplays including "Sky Riders" (1976), "Breaking Point" (1976), "Damien: Omen II" (1978) and "Meteor" (1979). Mann received an Edgar Award for "Eye of the Needle" (1981). He wrote the film adaptation for the Stephen King novel "Firestarter" (1984).
