Ruby Wallace Steele, 94 years, 10 months, 07 days of Lacey's Spring, AL went to her heavenly home on Tuesday. Ruby was born in Fulton, MS where she lived with her parents Casper and Annie Wallace until she married Clovis E. Steele on August 23, 1943. She and Clovis moved several times throughout their marriage, calling many small Mississippi towns to include Moss, Ackerman, Cleveland, Bloomo, Hamilton, Batesville and Water Valley "home". They moved to the Huntsville area in 1977 when her husband retired as Superintendent of Water Valley High School. Ruby dedicated her life to her family. She was a devoted helpmate to her husband of 66 years and loved being a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and cooking for her family. She was famous for her coconut and caramel cakes and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered at her home every Saturday to enjoy a home cooked meal. Ruby loved to play dominoes and she often challenged her grandchildren to a game in the evenings after supper. Ruby was a devout Christian and long-time member of Mayfair Church of Christ. When she could no longer attend church service she faithfully watched Abundant Living and Brother Bradley every Sunday morning.

Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her beloved husband 'Clo' and their infant daughter who died during childbirth.

She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Johnson (Jerry) of Oxford, MS; sons, Raymond Steele (Melanie), Larry Steele (Paula), and James Steele (Jennifer) who all reside in Huntsville; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 23rd from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, Huntsville, AL. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Gary Bradley officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
