Powers, Joe Charles, 87, of Midwest City, died peacefully in his sleep at his residence on January 21, 2016. Born January 23, 1928 in McCurtain, Oklahoma to Eslie and Gussy Powers.

He graduated from Idabel High School. Joe earned a bachelor’s degree in bacteriology from the University of Oklahoma, a theology degree from New Orleans Theological Seminary and a master’s degree in microbiology from Central State College. He was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant during the Korean War. He preached at Southern Baptist churches in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma and Lincoln, Arkansas. Later, he taught a variety of science courses for 30 years at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City.

Joe was an active and committed member of First Baptist Church of Midwest City for most of his life. He enjoyed camping, and served for a time as a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Irene Sutton and Geraldine "Jerrye" Turney, both from Midwest City.

Joe is survived by his wife, Irma Powers; children, John Powers of Garland, Texas, Scott Powers of Midwest City, Linda Doerman of Edmond and Don Arnold of Florida; 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 10 AM, January 25, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Midwest City with interment to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens, Midwest City, Oklahoma.
