Mrs. Ethel J. Dodds, 79, died at 5:40 pm Sunday in Franklin Hospital. A daughter of James E. and Cynthia J. Daugherty Jolley, she was born in Scrubgrass Township, Butler County (should be Venango County), November 1, 1893.
She spent her early life in Scrubgrass Township, moving to the Franklin area in the early 1900's. She attended the public schools in Rocky Grove. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Prior to her marriage May 30, 1916, to Earl W. Dodds, she had worked at the General Manifold and Printing Company. She worked several years on the election board of the district where she lived in Rocky Grove, was best known for her work as a volunteer for the United Fund. She was a member of the Rocky Grove Avenue United Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Auxiliary to Franklin Post 476 of the American Legion.
Surviving with her husband are two sons, Ronald E. Dodds of Warren and Wayne E. Dodds of Corry, a daughter, Mrs. James J. (Betty) Scurry of Franklin, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A daughter, Geraldine, is deceased, along with four brothers, George, Plummer, Thomas and Selden Jolley, and five sisters, Mrs. Milton (Lottie) Sloan, Mrs. Clyde (Clara) Kelly, Mrs. Frank (Margaret) Wood, Mrs. Ray (Bessie) Williams, and Mazerna Jolley.
Services will be at the Frank S. Huff Chapel with Rev. John D. Thomas, pastor of the Rocky Grove Avenue United Presbyterian Church, and Rev. John A. Harrington, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Franklin, officiating. Interment will be in the Franklin Cemetery.
