CALLAHAN – Katherine Anne, 92, ended her journey here May 9, 2013, at Arden Courts, Monroeville. She was one classy woman, loving mother and beloved grandmother. Born Feb. 7, 1921, in Johnstown, daughter of Philip and Rose (Bajic) Tomak. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Raymond; and siblings, Mary Umek; Anne Amershek; Sister Rosemarie Tomak, ASC; and Mildred, Frank, John, Philip, Edward and Emery Tomak. Survived by children, Dr. Mary Callahan, married to Dr. John Coppes, State College; Anne, married to David Mendelson, Johnstown; Kathleen, married to Boyd Thorpe, Lake Orion, Mich.; Joseph, married to the former Susan Jones, Pittsburgh; Raymond Callahan, Johnstown; and Margot Callahan, married to Guido Giuntini, Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Eleanor and Anne Coppes; Laine Mendelson Mish, and husband, Kyle; Maura Mendelson Withers, and husband, Rocky; Elyse Mendelson, and partner, Ian Tendick; Patrick and Conor Mendelson; Taylor Thorpe, and fiance, David Nguyen; Carly and Elliott Thorpe; Gavin and Gio Callahan Giuntini; and great-grandchild, Lydia Eve Withers, who brought her much joy. Katherine was a member of the former St. Rochus Church, where everyone called her “Aunt Kay,” and St. Clement Catholic Church, where funeral Mass will be held at noon Monday, May 13, with her nephew, Father Charles Amershek, leading us in celebrating her life. Committal service will take place at Grandview Cemetery. Friends received from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home, 710 Broad St., where vigil for the deceased will be held.
