Roger Philip Henley, 85, of Crawfordsville and formerly of Marshall died at 11:38 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

He was born July 30, 1930, at Mattoon, Illinois, to the late Thomas Edward Henley and Selma Anna Eversole Henley.

He was a retired farmer. He was a graduate of Marshall High School and received his bachelor’s degree in general agriculture from Purdue with highest honors. He was a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity, Alpha Zeta Delta and Cerias. He served with the U.S. Army. He also owned and operated a farm drainage business. He was a member of the Marshall Federated Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, served on the board and both the finance and building committees. He was a member of Purdue Extension board and a 50-plus year member of Bloomingdale Masonic lodge #127. He served eight and one half years as a Parke County Commissioner. A devoted family man, he dearly adored his grandchildren and each Christmas he would read the Christmas story from the Bible.

Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Margaret Duncan Henley, whom he married Nov. 19, 1954, at Lafayette; son Philip (Jill) Henley of Crawfordsville; daughter Susan Berry of Terre Haute; sister Mary Almira Rubio of Guelph, Ontario, Canada; six grandchildren, Adrianne Hays, Kelly Slusser, Scott Slusser, Karen Rice, Kim Endicott and Jacob Henley; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brother Robert S. Henley; and grandson Tim Berry.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at Marshall Federated Church, 105 N. Main St., Marshall, with Brother Don Perry officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery in Marshall. Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the church.

Memorials, should friends so desire, may be made to the Marshall Federated Church, P.O. Box 57, Marshall, IN 47953 in his memory.
