She first married Claude Loren Hiatt in approximately 1903 and had a son, Richard Walter Hiatt. She then married Dudley Huntington McCosh in approximately 1906-7 and together had two more children, Ramond Parnell McCosh and Alice M. McCosh. Her first child Richard Walter Hiatt from her first marriage was legally adopted by second husband Dudley McCosh, resulting in Richard being known as Richard Walter McCosh. Nellie was widowed in early 1929. She died 15 September 1965 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, age 76.
