Jeanette Lovelace Edwards, 90, was called home Sun., Jan. 10, 2016.
Funeral services were held Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. at Second Shady Grove
Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. W. Frank Osby officiating.
Internment followed at Second Shady Grove Cemetery with Presley-Fluker
Funeral Directors directing.
Active Pallbearers were Roderick Lovelace, G. Rashad Lovelace, Johnny
Lovelace Jr., Phillip Porterfield, Andre' Avant and Ronzlex Harris.
Honorary Pallbearers were, Walter A. Lovelace Sr., H. Benny Lovelace,
Collins Johnson Jr., Frank Harris, John Harris and Charles Lett.
She was born Aug. 12, 1925, the sixth child of the late Hiram and
Elizabeth Lovelace.
As a young girl she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and joined
the Second Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was a 1942
graduate of Southern Normal School and a graduate of Stillman College.
She met and married the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Edwards on
August 18, 1951. They moved to Detroit in 1953 where she united with
the St. Phillips Baptist Church. There she was loved, respected and
referred to as "Mother Edwards". She worked for 35 years for the state
of Michigan before retirement.
She is survived by sons, Mark (Phyllis) Edwards of Detroit; three
grandchildren, Cherese Jeanette Edwards (Darryl Vesey), Anthony
Edwards and Amanda Edwards, all of Detroit; three great-
grandchildren, Dyquann Williamson, Markese Vesey and Markell Vesey;
sister, Millie (Charlie) Harris of Philadelphia, Penn.; brother, H.
Benny Lovelace of Detroit; a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins,
other relatives and friends.
