HARLEM, Ga. - Cora Van Keuren Neal, 47, wife of John William Neal, died Tuesday, August 22, 2006, at University Hospital, Augusta, Georgia. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, August 25, 2006, at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, Augusta, Ga., with the Rev. Harriette Simmons and the Rev. Cannon Neal Phelps officiating. Mrs. Neal, a native of Augusta, was a graduate of Converse College and a 3rd grade teacher for 26 years at North Harlem Elementary. She was the Co-Chair of North Harlem Elementary Relay for Life Team and was also the Chair of Team Recruitment and Advocacy for the Harlem Relay for Life Committee. Mrs. Neal was a member of the St. Augustine's Episcopal Church and was a Sunday school teacher for over 20 years. In 1984 she received the Teacher of the Year Award from North Harlem Elementary School and was selected again for the award in 2006. Survivors include husband John William Neal; her children Franklin Van Keuren Neal and Elizabeth Ann Neal, both of Harlem; step-son Zach Neal and wife Lisa, of Jackson, Mississippi; brother, LeGrand Van Keuren, III, of Johnson City, Tennessee; granddaughter Katie Neal; and step-mother Jan V. E. Van Keuren, of Evans. She was preceded in death by her parents, LeGrand Abbey Van Keuren, Jr. and Ann Craig Van Keuren.
