Ellen Marie Callahan Sides

Ellen Marie Sides (Callahan), age 91, of Decatur, went peacefully home to our Heavenly Father January 19, 2016. Visitation will be held Friday, January 22, 2016 at Roselawn Funeral Home at 1:00 pm in the chapel. The Memorial Service will begin at 2:00 pm immediately following the visitation and will be officiated by Brother Gary Heathcock and Brother Jeff Sellers.

Mrs. Sides was preceded in death by her husbands, Travis Coleman Callahan and Donald Eugene Sides, her sister, Virginia "Dee Dee" Hyde, and her son, William Michael Callahan. She is survived by her daughters, Anne English Callahan, Virginia Leigh "Ginger" Carper, Mary Margaret Johnson, and Judith Marie Callahan, and step-children Joe Sides and Patsy Brooke; grandchildren, Virginia Burke Irish (Jon), Laura Adele Callahan-Caina (Pedro), Michael Austin Johnson (Catherine), Elizabeth Marie Morris, William Sidney Morris, Megan Leigh Carper, and Kathryn Anne Morris; great grand-children, Wiley David Irish, Wesley Michael Irish, Samuel Joseph Siebel Johnson, Vivian Simone Siebel Johnson, Callahan Pablo Caina, and Cecilia Luz Caina.

Ellen Marie graduated from Decatur High School in 1941. She was a long-standing member of Ninth Street United Methodist Church where she took joy in serving our Lord and community. As a young woman she worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell and later in life she worked for Jimmy Smith Jewelers. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, travelling, playing Pinochle, and spending time with her family and friends.
Her kind spirit and gentle, loving nature will be missed by all who knew her. She will forever be in our hearts and guiding each of us to be better people as she also did in life.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ninth Street United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice.
