Florence (Gannaway) Burton, 101, died on January 18, 2016. She was born on November 25, 1914 to Charlie and Maggie (Powell) Gannaway, who both passed away on the same day in October 1918 from the influenza pandemic. She and her younger brother, Guy Gannaway, were raised by their Gannaway grandparents. She persevered to graduate from Munford high school in 1934 as Valedictorian. On November 10, 1934 she married Benjamin Albert Burton. They began a life together that spanned over 55 years until his death on April 13, 1990. She worked hard all of her life and was always in a hurry. She loved tending to her vegetable garden, as well as cooking and sharing what it produced. Some of her happiest years were those spent working in the lunchroom at Lincoln school. She was a member of Coldwater Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brother and sister-in-law, Guy Laney and Ruby Nelson Gannaway; daughter, Ruby Jean Link and her daughter and son-in-law, Patsye and A.E. "Flute" Henderson. She is survived by four children, her son-in-law, eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Graveside service: 1:00 p.m. at Hall Cemetery in Lincoln on January 23, 2015. Service directed by Talladega Funeral Home.
