Rowland was the first child of his father's second marriage. He married Linda Keith, who was called Linnie, on December 30, 1893. They lived first in South Livermore where three children were born, and a fourth child was born in Turner. The following birth dates are from census and vital records:

Netina born November 29, 1895
Margaret born May 1897
Earl born November 21, 1898
Reginald born August 9, 1902

Of these, two died young: two-month-old Earl died in Jan. 1899 and 4-year-old Netina in April 1900.

From the vital records of their children, it appears that Rowland's family moved to Turner about 1900.

They lived in Turner, Fayette and Livermore. Rowland worked as a teamster to haul cream, as a farmer and at one point worked on a road crew.
