She entered the Army Nurse Corp as a Second Lieutenant on March 3, 1945. She served in the Army at Nichols General Hospital, Louisville, KY, and Crile General Hospital, Cleveland, OH, for a total of 15 months. At Crile she was in charge of four orthopedic wards consisting of 35 patients in each ward. She was discharged from the Army on June 17, 1946. When Crile General Hospital was converted into one of the hospitals of the Veterans Administration, she continued to work there as a staff nurse until August 1947.
She was predeceased by her parents, Fred Jacob Schweinfurth and Lydia Goetz Schweinfurth; her husband, Theodore "Ted" Kowalski; an infant brother, Basil Schweinfurth; and an infant sister, Beatrice Schweinfurth. She was survived by three brothers; two nieces; five nephews; three grand-nieces; and four grand-nephews.
Interment on December 16, 2016.
