A 1963 graduate of Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia, He went on to college at the Missouri University of Science And Technology at Rolla, then know as the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, graduating in 1968. While there, he was a member of ROTC, and upon graduation was a US Army Captain in the Corps of Engineers. He was later promoted to Major. The majority of his military career overseas was spent at a US Army Base near Kassel, Germany. In the US, he was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
Even though he chose to have his ashes scattered in the Black Hills of South Dakota, he is listed here with his family.
