Ruth Smith went home to her Savior on Sunday, January 17, 2016. She lived at Heritage Place Assisted Living in Burleson, Texas. Her passing was preceded by a short hospitalization the week prior. Ruth was born on January 30, 1932 in Temple, Oklahoma to John Burdal Kindred and Bertha Nell (Hall) Kindred and the family of 12 brothers and sisters.

She attended school in Temple and met her husband J.C. Smith Jr, whom she married on February 8, 1948. Ruth and J.C. moved from Temple to Oklahoma City to raise their family of 5 children. She was a member of Trinity Baptist and Kelham Baptist in Oklahoma City and later at Southcliff Baptist in Fort Worth. In retirement, J.C. and Ruth were long time members of Immanuel Baptist of Duncan, Oklahoma. She loved the church and was always an active worker for the Lord and raised her children to follow Him too. Ruth was always a very creative homemaker and was famous for her decorating and cooking in the home. She expressed her creativity through many art forms including painting, ceramics, and quilting. Ruth and J.C. were able to enjoy retirement by crossing the nation several times in their RV.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.C. Smith Jr. and by both her parents and siblings Ruby, Joe, Gene, Pete, Wilma, and George.

She is survived by her son, Jim and wife Beverly of Fort Worth, Pam of Fort Worth, Marsha Andres of Oklahoma CIty, Jay and wife Karen of Fort Worth, and Lorri Smith of Florida; her siblings, Jack Kindred, Jimmy Kindred, Fred Kindred, Lois Williams and Pat Robb; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Services are to be held 2:00pm Thursday January 21, 2016 at the Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel Duncan, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the City of Temple Cemetery.
