Mrs. Rettenmaier, Pioneer of City, Dies Early Today.
Following a prolonged illness, death came to Mrs. Frank J. Rettenmaier, 70, at the St. Anthony hospital at 8:30 this morning. She succumbed to uremic poisoning.
Mrs. Rettenmaier had been at the hospital for treatment at various intervals during the past year, having returned there two weeks ago. During the summer, she had also been at the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minn., for four weeks.
Funeral services are to be at 9 o clock Monday morning at SS. Peter and Paul’s church, with the Rev. Father Lambert Schenkelberg offering the requiem mass. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Mrs. Rettenmaier, a lifelong resident of Carroll, belonged to a well-known pioneer family. She was born Anne Christine Arts, daughter of Mrs. And Mrs. William Arts, April 25, 1874, in Carroll.
She attended the Carroll schools and was graduated from the local high school with the class of 1893. She then attended St. Clara college at Sinsinawa, Wis.
Sept. 12, 1900, she married Frank J. Rettenmaier, Carroll druggist the ceremony taking place at SS. Peter and Paul’s church.
They were the parents of five children, three of whom survive; Louis Arts Rettenmaier, Omaha, Neb.; Gerald J. Rettenmaier, Carroll, and Mrs. E.A. McDonald (Louise C.), Quantico, Va. Wilbur F. died in 1940 and Paul J., in 1920.
Besides her husband and the sons and daughter above names, Mrs. Rettenmaier leaves six grandchildren; one brother, Frank H. Arts, and three sisters, Mrs. Emma Arts, Mrs. J.C. Heider and Mrs. Mae Hamilton of Carroll.
Her parents, one sister, Mrs. F. H. Pielsticker (Louise) and two brothers, Joseph and William Arts preceded her in death.
Mrs. Rettenmaier was a member of SS. Peter and Paul’s church. She also belonged to the Christian Mothers Sodality of the parish.
She was a charter member of Court St. Rose of Lima No. 6, Catholic Daughters of America, and had taken an active part in the work of the organization as long as her health permitted.
Mrs. E.A. McDonald and children, Mary Louise and Joe, of Quantico Va., and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rettenmaier of Omaha were here when Mrs. Rettenmaier passed away. Mrs. W.F. Rettenmaier and children of Denver, Colo., are coming to attend the funeral rites.
