Orinda I Carver was b 25 Feb 1838, North Haven, Me, the d/o Samuel Carver & Betsey Calderwood. She d 10 Jan 1876, North Haven, in the diphtheria epidemic.

Orinda married Alvin Glover Beverage on 25 Jan 1860, North Haven. Alvin was b 3 Jan 1834, North Haven, the s/o James Douglass Beverage & Deborah Waterman. He d 24 Nov 1899, North Haven, Me.

They had no children.

Orinda taught school on North Haven in 1855 (6th District). Orinda's brother, Cyrus Carver, married Lucy Beverage; her sister, Olive Carver, married Albert Glover Beverage; and her sister, Leonora, married John W Beverage.

On 1 June 1854, Alvin G Beverage was included in North Haven's Tax Assessment. He had 1 poll, no acreage or house, but 1 barn. (Am thinking that should have been 1 store which was 1 column over). He owned $150 in bank stock. Real estate value: $175. Personal property value: $150. Total Tax assessment: $325.

In the Maine Register of 1856 and 1857 Alvin was running a "country" store.

Marriage Intention: Nov 16th, 1860. I this day issued a certificate of the publication of the intentions of marriage between Mr Alvin G Beverage and Miss Orinda J Carver, both of North Haven. John Woster, Town Clerk.

May 7th, 1864: Voted to receive Riley Brown, Eben Brown, Hannah Whaling, Julia Waterman, Orinda Beverage, Emma J Brown & Charlotte Carver as candidates for baptism, at regular conference. Norwood Beverage, Church Clerk Pro Tem. Attest a true copy, Lewis Leadbetter, Church Clerk.

Sunday May 22st, 1864: Riley Brown, Winthrop O Waterman, Eben Brown, Hannah Whaling, Julia Waterman, Orinda Beverage, Emma J Brown, Mary E Brown and Charlotte Carver were baptized and united with the church. Lewis Leadbetter, Church Clerk. Baptist Church Records, North Haven

In the 1860 census, 26-year-old Alvin was the only one listed as a cooper. He is residing with his father & stepmother on North Haven, with $200 listed in personal property.

In the 1870 census, 36-year-old Alvin is listed as a grocer on North Haven with real estate valued at $500 and personal property of $1000. With him is 32-year-old Orinda I. Also in 1870, he owned Blue Point on Pulpit Harbor, later purchased in 1916 by Norton. They lived in the house which is now part of Morris Cheston's home.

Sept 7th, 1872: At conference, after the usual exercises, heard report from Sister Annis about immoral conduct, also report from Deacon [Hanson Tolman] Carver that had been previously chosen to investigate the case. Voted to appoint a committee of two Sisters, viz, Orinda Beverage and Mahala Webster, to investigate the case and report at the next conference. In a letter written by Etta A Thomas to Capt George Alexander dated 19 Feb 1876 (transcribed by Paul & Maggi (Alexander) Henthorne): I am Alvin's. Have been here nearly two weeks. Should like to stay here if it wasn't that I miss Orinda so much, but it does seem so lonesome without her. Alvin has taken Spaulding back to board....Alvin is quite smart (well) now but feeling lonely.

Orinda died in the epidemic of diphtheria. Her husband, Alvin, also came down with it, but survived. She was nursed by her sister, Olive (Carver) Beverage. Family members also dying the epidemic were: Orinda's sister, Leonora (Carver) Beverage, Leonora's husband John White Beverage & their 9 year-old daughter Lizzie, brother-in-law, Benjamin Crabtree Beverage, aunt Hannah (Grant) Beverage, and nieces Leonora "Nora" Carver Beverage, Julia Waterman Beverage & Nettie Beverage.

After Orinda died, Alvin presented a bell to the Pulpit Harbor Church with the following inscription: "Presented to the Baptist Church of North Haven, October 1896, by Alvin G Beverage in memory of Mrs. Orinda I Beverage." It arrived the week of November 13, 1896 on the steamer, "Tremont."
