Charles Robert “Bob” Skelton, 79 years young, of Salmon, Idaho and Meridian, California passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 16, 2016 in Salmon surrounded by his wife Elena, mother in law Elena Barron, Salmon Valley Hospice and Hospice of Salmon Valley caregivers. Services will be held at a later date.

Bob was born in Wiconisco, Pennsylvania to the late Charles D. and Anna E. Skelton on March 26, 1936. He graduated from Wiconisco High in 1953. Upon his graduation, he and his family moved to Bakersfield, California.

A stroke of Bob’s good luck landed him a job with Southern Pacific Railroad. His career lasted for 39 years until his retirement in 1994.

In 1958, he married Shirley Brown and they had two sons, Brian K. Skelton and Stuart W. Skelton. Bob and Shirley eventually went their separate ways.

Bob was not known for the amount of breaths he took, but by the amount of vehicles he owned in his entire life span. To knowledge there were 63 and he enjoyed every one of them.

His love of NASCAR started way back and you knew your weekend was pretty much planned to be on his couch with a Pepsi in one hand and the remote in the other. He hated commercials and at one time counted 17 prior to returning to his race.

Bob had his sayings that left you speechless when you were rewarded by “How’s your Gizzard?” or “You’ll have that”. You never knew how to respond.

Bob always looked forward to January when his son Brian would make plans for their annual father / son duck hunting weekend in Bakersfield. Bob always returned rejuvenated from time spent with his son, hunting buddies and good food.

Bob met the love of his life and soul mate Elena Barron in 1986. He’d always comment eight days, that’s how long it took for him to fall in love for the first time. After a very long engagement they married on May 25, 2002. Together they’ve had many adventures.

Bob’s enjoyment of fishing, camping and RVing with his wife Elena took them to many places. On one of those trips they found Salmon, Idaho. They fell in love with the community and decided to purchase a vacation home in Baker.

Eventually Elena retired and they were able to spend more time in Salmon with the exceptions of winter when they’d return home to California.

Bob’s love of fishing was quickly satisfied when asked to join “The Grumpy Old Men” fishing club. They’d fish the Salmon River for White fish to donate for the annual fish fry for someone in need of medical treatment and or supplies.

He is survived by his wife Elena Skelton of Salmon and Meridian, California; son Brian K. (Julie) Skelton of Bakersfield, California; grandson Stuart (Katie) Skelton and their daughter Aubrey Skelton of Meranda, California; grandson John (Samantha) Skelton and their children Brayden and Anne Marie of Redway, California; granddaughter Allie Skelton and her children Kayden and Randy of Bakersfield, California; mother in law Elena Barron of Marysville, California; three nieces in Bakersfield, California; uncle Henry Knauber of Wiconisco, Pennsylvania and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Stuart Skelton and sister Charlotte Eggert.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Salmon Valley or Salmon Valley Hospice at 506 Van Dreff Street, Salmon, Idaho 83467.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Jones & Casey Funeral Home of Salmon, Idaho. www.jonesandcaseyfh.com
