LAST TRIBUTE PAID MEMORY MRS. SHERMAN
Relatives and old time friends of many years' standing gathered at the Creel chapel Wednesday afternoon to pay their tributes and respect to the memory of Mrs. Elsie Sherman, pioneer woman of the Giltedge section who died at the Giltedge ranch home of her son, William Sherman, last Sunday morning following a long period of failing health. The Rev. Clarence Orner of the Presbyterian Church conducted the services during which Mr. Roy Boettger accompanied by Mrs. Richard Lausch sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Rock the Ages', with fine effect. Following the services at the chapel, the casket was taken to the Giltedge cemetery where burial was made beside the grave of her husband who died here 35 years ago.
Born in Amsterdam, Holland, in 1863, Elsie Dundom came to this country at the age of four years with her parents, the late pioneer ranchers of the Moore section, Mr and Mrs. William Dundom. The Dundom's moved west in the early '80's and settled near what is now the town of Moore. In October, 1883, Miss Dundom was married to Fred W. Sherman in Washington and in 1890 they moved to the Giltedge section where she had lived continuously since. Mr. Sherman died in 1905 and was buried there. Mrs. Sherman is survived by eight children, 40 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The children are William F. Sherman of Giltedge, Fred and Sam living in California, Mrs. Mary Young of Idaho, Mrs. Rose McWhirk residing in western Montana, Mrs. Nellie Nielson of Wisconsin, John, living in Oregon, and Tom of Chicago. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. John Clark of Moore, Mrs. Katie Pintler living in Idaho, and Mrs. Fannie Barney living in California.
