She was born February 7, 1937 in Hershey, daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Deppen) Hess. She attended Hershey High School and went on to pursue a professional singing career with Horace Heidt and his Musical Knights, following multiple wins on the radio broadcasted Lucky Strike vocal talent show. She was known as “Little Gwennie Hess with the big voice from Hershey, Pennsylvania”, touring all over the country with Mr. Height and his band, including vocal appearances with Ray Anthony. She spent a summer singing at the Royal York Hotel with Moxie Whitney in Toronto, Canada, sang at the Banff Springs Hotel, Canada, and also had the honor of singing In Carnegie Hall, New York.
She married her high school sweetheart, Dick, and just celebrated 59 years of marriage.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by twin infant sons, James Eugene & Richard Stuart Wright.
