Sylvia was born on May 29, 1919 in Derby, Connecticut, daughter of the late Sophie and Morris Slachter, sister of Ida, Marion and Leo. She graduated from the Columbia University School of Dentistry as a dental hygienist in 1939. She practiced in Connecticut and New York City. She and Max lived on Long Island for 37 years before retiring to Boca Raton, Florida. She moved to Galloway Ridge in 2007. Sylvia was a talented pianist who brought much joy to people with her music.
A loving and compassionate mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Diana Levy of Chapel Hill, daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Stemerman of Williamsville, New York, four grand- children, Alycia and Jonathan Levy and Rachel and Jonathan Stemerman, and great-grand son Michael Vincent Stemerman and many nieces and nephews.
