Leon was born in Erath County, Stephenville, Texas on Oct. 23, 1927. Leon was the youngest of three boys of Virgil and Mabel Ferguson.
Leon served in the Army during the Korean War era. Leon married Carolyn Cope on May 28, 1960 in San Angelo, Texas. She preceded him in death in 2007. Leon and Carolyn had two sons, Jay Ferguson from San Angelo, Texas and Robert Ferguson and wife Terrye Ferguson and three grandsons, Wyatt, Chance and Rowdy Ferguson from Sterling City.
Leon and Carolyn lived at the ranch until 1962 and then lived in Odessa Texas until 1990. Leon worked for the city of Odessa until retirement. He was a member of Sherwood Church of Christ there. After retirement, Leon took over the family ranch with his two sons. Leon was a member of the Church of Christ in Sterling City, Southwest Cattle Raisers Association and the American Legion.
Leon’s two brothers, Merton and Garland Ferguson, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by sister-in-law and husband Delphine and Bill Kresge of San Angelo, Texas and Jack Conway of San Angelo. Leon is survived by three sisters-in-law, Cora Belle Ferguson of Waco, Texas, Darlene Conway of San Angelo, Texas and Donna and Dwayne Swindle of San Angelo, Texas. He is also survived by Roy and wife Diane Ferguson of Waco, Texas, Charles and wife Imagene Jackson of Big Lake, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
