Lena L. Coleman Lewis (PA-C), age 74, succumbed at Las Palmas Medical Center in El Paso, Texas on December 26, 2015 after a brief illness. Lena was born July 19, 1941 in Lisbon, Ohio. Lena moved to Carnegie, Pennsylvania at a young age and later settled in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, where she graduated from Penn Hills High School. Lena married David Coleman and raised three children, Kym Coleman, David Coleman Jr. and Timothy Coleman. Lena later remarried in 1987 to her current husband, Thomas Lewis Jr. Lena went on to attend Indiana State Teachers College of Pennsylvania, University of Pittsburgh and Lakeland Community College. Lena graduated from Cuyahoga Community College in 1987 with an Associate of Applied Science degree where she became a Certified Physician Assistant. Lena completed her Medical and Surgical Residency and Internship at the Montefiore Medical Center and The Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in 1988. Lena started as a Research Lab Coordinator at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School and later went on to become a Senior Lab Technician at Kaiser Permanente. After completing her education she worked as a PA-C, a career she was destined to undertake and loved both in Cleveland, Ohio and El Paso, Texas for 27 years. Lena had a passion for adventure. Lena was an RV traveler and served as first mate of the Intercity Yacht Club in Cleveland Ohio. As an avid reader she could often be found reading several books at the same time and enjoyed sewing, needle point, crochet and knitting. Lena was an animal lover and during her summers often volunteered with Doctors without Borders. Lena was preceded in death by her mother, Anne Scott Charlton her brother, George N. Charlton III and grandson, David Coleman III. She is survived by her husband Thomas A. Lewis Jr. of El Paso, TX, her sisters Dianna Jones of Chicago, IL and Suzanne Charlton of Shaker Heights, OH, her brother, Ronald Charlton of Runnings Springs, CA, her daughter, Kym Coleman of Pittsburgh, PA, her sons, David A. Coleman Jr. of Rockwall, TX and Timothy L. Coleman of Fairfax, VA, step-children Thomas A Lewis III of Cleveland Heights, OH, Tonya Lewis-Ray of Garfield Hts, OH, daughters-in-law, Annette Coleman of Rockwall, TX, LaKeisha Lewis of Cleveland Hts, OH, and 11 grandchildren, Durell Coleman, Ariel Coleman, Zach Coleman, Crystal Watkins, Ricardo Nichols, Thomas Lewis IV, Tehron Lewis, Brittani Lewis, Riley and Kennedy Lewis, one great-grandchild, Azealia Nichols.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, January 8, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home-West. Entombment will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Park in Rockwall, TX.
Lena helped and gave freely to not only her family but to anyone who needed it.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. These donations in honor of Lena Coleman-Lewis are in appreciation of the great care provided by the Children's Cancer Center for her grandson David A. Coleman lll.
