James Walter Kilby, 76, of Midway Rd., Stony Point, passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on Monday, January 11, 2016.
He was born June 3, 1939, in Wilkes County, son of the late Walter and Alice Wagoner Kilby. He was a retired over the road truck driver, veteran of the U. S. Army, and was a member of Unity Christian Church, Stony Point.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Louise Jarvis Kilby; three brothers, Gene Autry Kilby, Richard Junior Kilby, and Brice Kilby; and a sister, Nannie Sue Kilby Jones.
Left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Michael Gene Kilby of Statesville, and James Richard Kilby of the home; a daughter, Stephanie Louise Kilby and fiancé Joseph Lowrance of Statesville; eight brothers and sisters, Della Faye Benge and husband Ralph of Statesville, Larry Kilby and wife Dot of Hays, Jerry Kilby of Millers Creek, Mary Belle Luther of Millers Creek, Bill Kilby and wife Rosa of Millers Creek, Jack Kilby of North Wilkesboro, Rick Kilby of Statesville, and Margaret Ann Kilby and husband Tiny Parson of North Wilkesboro; four grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Benfield of Statesville, Kristen Taylor Kilby of Statesville, Layden Elizabeth Rodecker of Stony Point, and Justin Blake Kilby of Statesville; and a great-grandchild, Chloe Grace.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, January 15, 2016 at Unity Christian Church. Rev. Scott Hammer and Rev. Clifford Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hiddenite Cemetery. Military rites will be presented by VFW Post 5466 and DAV Chapter 84, Taylorsville. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Chapman Funeral Home Chapel.
