Major League Baseball Player. He spent 12 seasons in the major leagues as a pitcher with the Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies, Brooklyn Dodgers, Boston Bees and Cincinnati Reds. He played collegiate baseball at Sam Houston State University before joining the big leagues. He made his major league debut on September 26, 1925 defeating the Philadelphia Phillies six to nothing. Over the next decade he appeared in 346 games winning 101 games and losing 130. Following his professional career he returned to Sam Houston State University where he served as the head coach from 1957 to 1968 compiling a 237 and 102 win-loss record. He led the Bearkats to six NAIA World Series appearances including a NAIA championship in 1963. He was inducted into Sam Houston State University's Hall of Honor in 1971.
