The funeral service for Walter Lee Anderson, 77, Mansfield, SD, will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 11, 2012 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aberdeen with Pastor Bob Ohnstad officiating. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at Richland Cemetery, Mina, SD. Walter died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls.
Visitation is 2-7 p.m. Sunday, June 10, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen.
Walter Lee Anderson was born on July 20, 1934 near Mina, SD to Swen and Amy (Peterson) Anderson. This is the area where he grew up and attended school. On October 4, 1952 Walter married Barb Perry at Cresbard, SD. They made their home on a farm until 1956 when they moved to Des Moines, IA. In 1959 they moved back to the farm near Mansfield where he was living at the time of his death.
Walter was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He loved farming and his cattle. He also enjoyed attending auction sales and spending time at the sale barn. Bowling was a favorite pass time of his. Walter deeply loved his wife, children and especially his grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared Walter's life are his wife Barb, Mansfield, two sons, Larry Anderson, Sr., Mansfield, and Steven (Dawn) Anderson, Howard Lake, MN, two daughters, Marty (Dennis) Ottenbacher, Pierre, SD and Nancy (Wayne) Bork, Humboldt, SD, thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Swen and Amy, grandson-in-law, John Iverson, great grandson, Cole Iverson, three brothers, Carl "Bud" Anderson, Bob Anderson, and Wallace Anderson, and one sister, Jean Finley.
