Mr. Bastian was born in Burlington, Colo., and was a Porterville resident 80 years. He attended Hope School, where five generations of his family have attended. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Porterville; Masonic Lodge No. 303 of Porterville, Elks; Orange Belt Saddle Club; Cattleman's Asssociation; Farm Bureau; and he was past chairman of Porterville Roundup for eight years.
He was a school board trustee for Hope School for 20 years and he was active in the Booster Club at Porterville College.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Bastian of Porterville; one son, Ted Bastian of Porterville; two daughters, Karen Reed and Patricia Elam, both of Porterville; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Bastian and a sister, Evelyn Haley.
