A graveside service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Friday at Vandalia Cemetery for George Bastian, 84, a Porterville resident who died Wednesday in Porterville. The Rev. Walter Ralph of Porterville and Ben Hagans, past master of Exeter Masonic Lodge No. 424 will officiate.
Mr. Bastian was born in Burlington, Colo., and was a Porterville resident 80 years. He attended Hope School, where five generations of his family have attended. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Porterville; Masonic Lodge No. 303 of Porterville, Elks; Orange Belt Saddle Club; Cattleman's Asssociation; Farm Bureau; and he was past chairman of Porterville Roundup for eight years.
He was a school board trustee for Hope School for 20 years and he was active in the Booster Club at Porterville College.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Bastian of Porterville; one son, Ted Bastian of Porterville; two daughters, Karen Reed and Patricia Elam, both of Porterville; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Bastian and a sister, Evelyn Haley.
