Roger Lee Ashley, 67 of Phillips, Wisconsin, passed away January 13 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN after a courageous battle with a respiratory illness.

His loving family was at his side. Roger was born in the Town of Seymour to Chester and Bernice (Popp) Ashley. He was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 46 years, Marianne (Thompson) and two precious daughters, April Quevillon (Kevin) of Mosinee and Amber Halada (Thomas) of La Crosse, WI and three cherished grandchildren, Karson, Autumn and Karter Quevillon, mother Bernice, brother Ken (Sharon) Ashley of The Villages, FL. and two sisters, Karen (Frank) Sand of Menomonie and Jeanne Ashley (Nick Pund) of The Villages, FL. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Maxine Loomis (Joe Collinsworth) of Niceville, FL, Catherine Thompson (Greg Belknap) of Maple Grove, MN, two brothers-in-law, John Thompson (Cathy Houston) of Eau Claire and Gary (Julie) Thompson of Excelsior, MN and many relatives and friends.

Roger was a 1966 graduate of Eau Claire North High School. He was a proud Vietnam veteran and attended many Blackhorse Regiment reunions throughout the United States. For 23 years he owned and operated Custom T’s Print Shop in Phillips.

Anyone who met Roger felt like they’d known him forever. He could start a conversation with anyone and talk about anything. He was interested in everyone’s story.

Roger and Marianne formed a strong, caring partnership. They met on Christmas night, 1967 and lived a real life love story. They spent time traveling and camping in their motorhome or being on the lake on their pontoon, but they really loved time with their daughters and their families. Roger always showed the grandkids a good time and had a sense of curiosity that was contagious.

Roger was always working on a few projects, and was usually planning a few more. He was never idle for long. When you were with Roger, you never knew where the day would take you, but you knew it would be an adventure!

Roger will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. He is no doubt dangling a line in a crystal blue lake and waiting for the “big one” to bite. Wishing you calm waters, Roger.

Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1712 Highland Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54701. Father Don Meuret will officiate. Visitation will take place on Tuesday evening at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home from 4:30-7 pm with a 7 pm prayer service to conclude the evening's visitation. The visitation will continue on Wednesday morning at the church from 10 am until the time of service.
