Rev. Jeffrey R. Robbins Sr., 58, of Abingdon, IL died at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016, at OSF St. Mary's Medical Center in Galesburg, IL.
Born March 20, 1957 in Winston-Salem, NC, he was the son of Dr. Hal and Lillian (Andrews) Robbins. He spent his early years in Virginia. On March 14, 2007 Rev. Robbins married Roberta Davilla in Waterloo, IA.
Rev. Robbins was a 1975 graduate of Liberty High School, Liberty, SC and received his degree in Industrial Management from Clemson University (1979) where he also was a walk-on fullback #42 for the Clemson Tigers until his Jr. year when he injured his knee.
Rev. Robbins was an Air Force veteran, serving as a Med Vac in South Korea and Vietnam.
Rev. Robbins has served in law enforcement, as a State Trooper and was a Police Chief. He was also a professional wrestler, known as "The Enforcer" and "The Avenger", wearing a mask when wrestling so as to not interfere with his work in law enforcement. He worked for the Charleston, SC International Airport and was the assistant airport director for the Columbus Metropolitan Airport in Columbus, GA and FAA field aviation anti-terrorism instructor. He was also the Waterloo, IA Regional Airport Director.
Rev. Robbins was a minister and was ordained in the Wesleyan Church. He served the Oquawka, Gladstone and Biggsville United Methodist Churches from 2007 until 2013 when he was appointed to Abingdon United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed reading, fishing, coaching, helping youth, Community Ministry and spending time with family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Roberta Robbins of Abingdon, Illinois; his children, Monica Courtney (Jon) Azbill of Dysart, IA, Peter Adams of St. Paul, MN, Edward (Megan) Adams of Carman, IL, Jeffrey (Julie) Robbins Jr. of New Albany, IN, Timothy (Kim) Robbins of Hudson, IA and Kaitlin (David) Beaumont of Denver, IA; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie, Evan, Mishayla, Kale, Braven, Vincent, Cannen, Christopher, Jackson, Tyesen, Dominic, and Bella; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Hal Robbins of Seneca, SC; one sister, Yvonne (Earl) Beasley of West Union, SC; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and brother, Joel Edwards Robbins II.
Friends may call from noon until 7 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m.
The funeral service for Rev. Robbins will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 20th, at First United Methodist Church in Burlington with Dr. Jack Thomas, President of Western Illinois University, officiating. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites.
Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Abingdon, Biggsville, Gladstone and Oquawka United Methodist Churches and American Diabetes Foundation for Research.
Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel and will be accorded following the visitation.
